"The Day of the Jackal" is a suspense novel written by British author Frederick Forsyth, published in 1971. It was made into a film in 1973 and became a huge hit. This drama is based on the original novel, but has updated settings such as the historical background and international situation. Set in Europe, it depicts the thrilling battle between the Jackal, a skilled assassin played by Redmayne, and the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) who are pursuing him. It was nominated for two categories at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards: Best Picture and Best Actor.
In the drama, the top-class hitman "The Jackal" (Redmayne) succeeds in the difficult assassination of German candidate for chancellor Manfred from a distance of 3,815 meters in Munich. Then the Jackal receives a new request. It is to assassinate IT entrepreneur Ure Doug Charles, also known as UDC. He has caused controversy by trying to release software called "River" that makes all financial flows transparent.
Meanwhile, Bianca (Lashana Lynch), an investigator for the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6), is knowledgeable about firearms and begins to pursue the culprit using the custom-made high-performance rifle used in the Munich sniper as a clue. She tries to get information from her collaborators, but ends up in an unexpected situation... and the story unfolds.
The drama "The Day of the Jackal" will have 10 episodes. It will be broadcast on WOWOW Prime every Saturday at 11pm from February 22nd (bilingual version, the first episode will be broadcast for free). The subtitled version will be broadcast every Tuesday at 10pm from February 25th.
