The first preview of the NHK Taiga drama " UNBOUND - Tsutaju Eika no Yumebanashi -," starring actor Ryusei Yokohama , which will begin on January 5, 2025, was held on December 16 at the NHK Broadcasting Center (Shibuya Ward, Tokyo), with Yokohama, scriptwriter Morishita Yoshiko, director Ohara Taku, and production manager Fujinami Hideki in attendance. It was revealed that the series, which depicts the Yoshiwara red-light district, has employed an "intimacy coordinator" to support the filming of sexual scenes.
Ohara explained, "The setting is Yoshiwara, so we try not to turn a blind eye to that. We have no intention of glamorizing it, and (the sex industry) is a real industry. We don't particularly emphasize it, nor do we belittle it; we see it as a normal part of the world. I hope that viewers will be able to see how people live there as entertainment. We also had an intimacy coordinator help so that it doesn't become a burden for the cast. We don't have them "undress" more than necessary."
Morishita said, "I think there will be some topics that are difficult to talk about with your child, but prostitutes are people too. People working in the sex industry are just like you. I hope that seeing this will help them grow into adults who can imagine."
" UNBOUND- Tsutaya Eika no Yumebanashi" is the 64th taiga drama, depicting the life of Tsutaya Juzaburo(Yokohama), who is said to have built the foundations of Japan's media industry and pop culture. The production team bills him as "a dashing young man who was born without parents, money, or artistic talent... but who became the darling of the era as the 'Edo media king.'"
