The synopsis for the final episode (extended 56 minutes) of the TBS Sunday Theatre drama "Diamonds Sleeping in the Sea" (Sundays at 9pm), starring actor Kamiki Ryunosuke, which will air on December 22nd, has been released.
In the final episode, Izumi (Nobuko Miyamoto) tells Reo (Kamiki, playing two roles) that Teppei (Kamiki) eloped with Rina (Elaiza Ikeda) and has never been seen since. Izumi then begins to tell Reo about "that night" when the two of them disappeared.
March 1965. Hashima Island is revived by the discovery of coal from the new area, and Teppei is seen working hard to start full-scale operations. Teppei often goes to Nagasaki with Rina to take her son Makoto to the hospital, and there are rumors among the islanders that the two are in a relationship. Teppei immediately denies it when he hears about it from Kensho (Shimizu Hiroya). However, behind the scenes, Teppei shares a secret with Rina that he cannot tell anyone.
One day, Teppei calls Asako (Hana Sugisaki) saying that he has something to talk about. However, on the appointed night, when Asako finishes work, Teppei never shows up... What happened on that night when the fates of Teppei and Asako were divided?
Furthermore, a big secret was still hidden in the 10 volumes of Teppei's diary that Izumi had. What is the true meaning of the blackened letters and torn pages? Meanwhile, Reo and Izumi decide to visit Nagasaki again. There, they will learn about Teppei's feelings... After 70 years, the story of love, youth, friendship, and family finally comes to an end.
