The final episode of the TBS Sunday Theatre drama "Diamonds Sleeping in the Sea" (Sunday 9pm), starring actor Ryunosuke Kamiki, will be broadcast as a 2-hour special (extended by 56 minutes) on December 22nd, and it was revealed on the 15th that actors Kenichi Takito and Yumi Aso will appear as special guests who hold the key to the story.
In the eighth episode that aired on the 15th, Izumi's (Miyamoto Nobuko) grandson Chikage (Kataoka Rin) wins auction for valuables from Hashima, including 8mm film, but when the exhibitor cancels the bid and she calls to complain, a man who calls himself Koga, whose parents lived on Hashima, appears. Does this man know the truth about Teppei (Kamiki) who disappeared? Takito plays the man who holds the key to the final sprint that concludes this epic story that has spanned 70 years.
It has also been decided that Yumi Aso will appear in the final episode as someone who knows Teppei. As Aso herself is originally from Nagasaki, she was enthusiastically offered the role by the program. You won't want to miss the end to find out what these two new characters have to say.
The drama is a story of love, friendship and family spanning 70 years, set on the island of Hashima (Gunkanjima) in Nagasaki Prefecture, which developed through coal mining from the beginning of the Meiji era to the postwar high economic growth period, and in modern-day Tokyo. It is written by Akiko Nogi, directed by Ayuko Tsukahara, and produced by Junko Arai, the team behind the dramas "Unnatural" and "MIU404" (same series) and the movie "The Last Mile."
