Actor Ryosuke Otani will appear in the 7th episode of the popular detective drama "Aibou Season 23" (TV Asahi, Wednesday 9pm) titled "The Revenger Doesn't Smile" (broadcast on December 11th). This will be his first appearance in about nine years as former detective Shinsuke Miura of the First Investigation Division.
Miura was a regular member of the series from the beginning, and is a popular character who has been loved as "The Trio of the First Investigators" along with Itami Kenichi (Kawahara Kazuhisa) and Serizawa Keiji (Yamanaka Takashi). Although he is a detective who has worked his way up from the local precinct, he has a gentle personality and is often the one to step in to calm Itami and Kaoru Kameyama (Terawaki Yasufumi) of the Special Missions Unit when they quarrel, and he has been portrayed as the conscientious member of the trio.
However, in the first episode of season 12 (October 2013), he was stabbed in the thigh during an investigation and was seriously injured, which led to him being unable to let go of his cane, and he retired from the Metropolitan Police Department. After that, he appeared once in front of Ukyo Sugishita (Yutaka Mizutani) in the New Year's Day Special of season 14 (2016) to provide information.
This time, which will be his first appearance in about nine years, he will not only reunite with Ukyo and Kaoru, but also meet Itami and Serizawa for the first time in over ten years. In addition, he will meet Izumo Reon (Yukiko Shinohara), a member of the current "Trio The Investigation Division 1", for the first time.
Otani, who will be playing Miura for the first time in a while, confessed how he felt when he received the offer, "I was happy, but at the same time, I was a little anxious about whether I would be able to get into the mindset of Detective Miura after such a long time. I was a little nervous about acting with Mizutani Yutaka and Terawaki Yasufumi again after such a long time, but thanks to the natural atmosphere between them I was able to calm down quickly."
Looking back on the filming, she said, "This time, I was able to co-star with Kawahara Kazuhisa and Yamanaka Takashi for the first time in over 10 years, and I also got to meet Shinohara Yukiko, who plays Izumo Reon, for the first time. Everyone was so confident and got me into the mood even though it was a short scene, which I was really grateful for." She added, "In 'Aibou', everyone gives their all in their performances, from the main characters, regular actors, and criminals, to the actors who only have short scenes. Please look forward to it."
In episode 7, a man named Hiroki Oshimi, who was wanted for the murder of his ex-girlfriend 29 years ago and has been on the run, is stabbed to death by an unknown assailant. Immediately afterwards, Miura asks the Special Investigation Unit to investigate the case, and the story begins to move.
