It was revealed on December 10th that actor Yutaka Takenouchi will star in the film "YUKIKAZE" (directed by Toshihisa Yamada), which will be released in August 2025. The film is based on the legendary destroyer "YUKIKAZE" that was active during the Pacific War, and Takenouchi will play the captain of the "YUKIKAZE", Kazutoshi Terazawa.
The film depicts on a grand scale the lives and fates of people who struggled to survive in the turbulent times that spanned from the Pacific War to the postwar period and on to the present day. It brings to life as fiction based on historical fact the many roles played by the Yukikaze, the only one of the 38 main destroyers to survive the end of the war without sinking and known as the "unsinkable ship."
Takenouchi plays Captain Terazawa Kazutoshi of the Yukikaze, a character who displays leadership by overcoming fierce battles with calm instructions and unconventional decisions, but who also has a pure humanity and believes in Bushido. Takenouchi commented, "As someone who has never experienced war, I had many concerns about playing a character based on historical fact, but I braced myself and took on the role. In 2025, Japan will mark 80 years since the end of the war. I hope that this film will reach the hearts of as many people as possible and provide an opportunity for reflection."
The first cut of Takenouchi's character, Terazawa, and a super teaser trailer using footage from the film have also been released. The teaser trailer gives a glimpse of the grand scale and deep human drama of the film.
