A teaser visual for the TV anime "Darwin Incident," based on the manga by Umezawa Shun, which was also the recipient of the Grand Prize at the Manga Taisho Awards 2022, has been released. Along with the tagline "Encounters between humans and non-humans change the world," the visual expresses the sense of unease lurking in Charlie and Lucy's daily lives.

The main staff has also been announced, with Tsuda Naokatsu, who has worked on the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series as director and general director, serving as director. Nakayama Katsuichi, who served as assistant director on the Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Advance and 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, will be series director, and Tomooka Shinpei will be in charge of character design. The series will be produced by Kadokawa's animation production studio, Belnox Films.

Director Tsuda commented, "We made this film with great importance in mind, because it is a boy-meets-girl story and the motif is very sensitive. I hope that this work can become a hook for people who watch it to think about something in their daily lives. I hope that you will look forward to the encounter between the human geek boy and the impressionable girl and the adults surrounding them."

"Darwin Incident" has been serialized in "Monthly Afternoon" (Kodansha) since 2020. Charlie, a "human geek" born between a human and a chimpanzee, will face the problems that "humans" face, such as terrorism, online outrage, and discrimination.

The series has a total circulation of over 1.6 million copies. It has swept all manga awards, including being ranked 10th in the men's edition of "This Manga is Amazing! 2022," the Excellence Award in the Manga Division of the 25th Japan Media Arts Festival, and 2nd in the "Recommended Comics 2022 Selected by Publishers' Comics Departments." It was also selected for the Asia section of the BDGest'Arts event held at the 50th Angoulême International Comics Festival in France, and is popular not only in Japan but also overseas.
