It has been announced that a second season of the NHK drama series "Watashitte Sabasaba Shiterukara," which aired in 2023 starring comedian Maruyama Rei, will be produced.
The drama is based on the manga of the same name by Torafugu and Eguchi Shin, and the protagonist is Amihama Nami (Maruyama), a self-proclaimed "saba saba woman." In the previous series, Amihama took a "self-first" approach to work at a major publishing company and an apparel mail-order company, but in season 2 she changes jobs to become a high school teacher. The series depicts the troubles and new challenges that arise within the school as she begins her teaching career with the aim of building status for marriage. While working as an assistant teacher for an enthusiastic young teacher, Amihama stirs up human relationships in the staff room with her natural behavior, while also struggling to find a husband.
Maruyama commented, "Two years after the previous series, Amihama Nami, the epitome of 'self-sufficiency', is returning to Japan! Thanks to everyone's love and enjoyment, I am playing Amihama again this time, and I am able to dwell on her aggressive personality for the first time in a long time. The setting and job have changed, but the 'Amihama style' is still as strong as ever! I am excited to see my desires and no consideration for others leave viewers feeling refreshed, and I hope to be able to deliver a realistic and comical drama. I am naturally nervous around the big name cast, but at the same time, I will be very energetic as I take on the filming. I hope you will look forward to it!"
"Watashitte Sabasaba Shiterukara Season 2" is scheduled to air on BSP4K from February to March 2025, and on NHK General TV in the spring of the same year.
