NHK's special drama "Unrequited Love," starring actress Mana Ashida, will air for two consecutive nights on March 26th and 27th. The drama is the ultimate unrequited love story, depicting the joy and happiness of unrequited love, with Amane Okayama playing the role of the object of Ashida's unrequited love.
The drama is an original work by screenwriter Yoshikazu Okada, known for his work on the network's Asadora dramas "Churasan" and "Hiyokko." Ashida plays Yui Sugawara, who lives with her mother in Morioka City, loves tofu, and ends up working at the tofu shop owned by the family of her childhood friend, Kenken (played by Okayama). Okayama plays Kenji Sugawara, nicknamed "Kenken," who has been good at drawing since he was a child and has won many awards. After graduating from university, he worked at a design company in Tokyo, but one day he quits the design company and returns to his family's tofu shop in Morioka.
Other cast members appearing in the drama include Rena Takeda, Toshihiro Yashiba, Michiko Haneda, and Kayoko Shiraishi.
The first part will air on NHK General on March 26th at 10 PM. Yui (Ashida) and Kenken (Okayama) are childhood friends who live next door to each other in a shopping district in Morioka. They grew up so close that they could talk to each other just by sticking their heads out the windows of their rooms. Kenken, who is good at drawing and works at a design company in Tokyo, is Yui's crush and she has had a crush on him for a long time. One day, Kenken comes back to Morioka for a relative's funeral. Moreover, Kenken says that he has quit his job in Tokyo and will be working at his family's tofu shop. Yui is overjoyed, but... Scene cuts have also been released.
