An exhibition commemorating the 40th anniversary of the animated pilot version of Matsumoto Izumi's manga "Kimagure Orange Road" will be held at Marui City Yokohama (Nishi Ward, Yokohama) from October 24th until November Getsuku.
The pilot episode was screened at the 1985 event "Jump Special Anime Parade," and became the starting point for subsequent TV anime and other series. The exhibition will display color original drawings and rough sketches by Akemi Takada, who was in charge of character design for the anime. Merchandise will also be on sale. A signing session with Takada will be held on November Getsuku.
Kimagure Orange Road was Matsumoto's debut serialization, and ran for 156 chapters in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha) from 1984 to 1987. A 48-episode TV anime series aired on Nippon Television from April 1987 to March 1988, and an original video animation (OVA) and a movie were also produced. The story depicts the love story between Kyosuke Kasuga, who possesses mysterious powers, Madoka Ayukawa, a beautiful girl who refuses to open up to anyone, and Hikaru Hiyama, an active junior.
