It has been announced that the TV anime series "Yomi no Tsugai," based on the latest work by Arakawa Hiromu, known for popular manga such as "Fullmetal Alchemist" and "Silver Spoon," will be broadcast in 2026. The main cast has also been announced, with Kensho Ono playing the protagonist Yuru, Yume Miyamoto playing Asa, Yuichi Nakamura playing Della, and Misaki Kuno playing Gabu-chan. The announcement was made at the online event "Aniplex Online Fest 2025," held on September 13th.
Ono, who plays Yuru, a young hunter who is familiar with the mountains and has excellent archery skills, commented, "I never dreamed that the day would come when I would be able to take part in a work by Mr. Arakawa! Dubbing has already begun, and I can really feel the enthusiasm of the cast and staff. It's a tense but very enjoyable recording session. I will do my best to deliver something that retains the good points of the original while also being even more powerful. Please support me!"
Miyamoto, who plays Asa, the eyepatch-wearing twin sister of Yuru, said, "I'm Yume Miyamoto! I'm so happy to be able to say this. After receiving the audition details, I got to know the work and was captivated by the depth of the story, the interesting setting, and the charm of each character. At the same time, I was excited to hear that this work would be made into an anime. There are so many characters, so I was conflicted between wanting to be involved in any role and really wanting to play Asa, and when I heard that I had passed, I was so happy that I went out for yakiniku by myself!!! I'm also very happy to be able to work on a project with Kensho Ono, who has been a big presence in my life and someone I've admired since I was a child! Since they've entrusted me with this role, I'll do my best, carefully and with all my heart. Thank you very much!"
Nakamura, who plays the traveling merchant Dela, said, "This will be my first time taking on a role in one of Arakawa's works since Greed in Fullmetal Alchemist. Like Greed, Dela in this work has a somewhat older brother-like quality to him...or maybe not (laughs). In this work, Tsugai: The Fallen, as the title suggests, 'Tsugai = Mate' is an important key to the story. It refers to two beings becoming a pair, and when you think about it, the concept of pairs, like 'equivalent exchange', was also a major theme in Fullmetal Alchemist (although strictly speaking the meaning is slightly different...). Perhaps Arakawa has a special feeling for 'things that form a pair'. Those who are familiar with the original work will enjoy the new appeal that comes from the added 'movement, voice, and music' that are unique to the anime. Also, for those who are interested in this work through the anime, I would definitely recommend reading the original work as well. Kuno, who plays the petite girl Gabu-chan, commented, "I personally love Gabu-chan's toothy smile. I'm very happy to be able to play such a character! "Yomi no Tsugai" is the story of Yuru and Asa, who were born as "twins separated by day and night." It has been serialized in "Monthly Shonen Gangan" (Square Enix) since December 2021, and the total number of copies of the comic series has exceeded 4 million.
The TV anime will be produced by Square Enix, Aniplex, and Bon, the same studios that produced the "Fullmetal Alchemist" anime series, which aired and was released from 2003 to 2011. It will be directed by Masahiro Ando, who has worked on "Stranger: Mukoujin Tan" and "Zetsuen no Tempest," with character design by Arai Nobuhiro, who has worked on "Bungo Stray Dogs," and series composition by Takagi Noboru, who has worked on "Durarara!!" and "Golden Kamuy," and music by Suehiro Kenichiro, who has worked on "Re:Zero."
