It has been announced that actor Dean Fujioka will be appearing in the TV Asahi drama series "A Little Bit of Esper" (Tuesdays at 9pm), which begins on October 21st. He will play Osuke, who has become a "little bit of an esper" just like the main character, Bunta, played by Yo Oizumi.
This film stars Oizumi and is based on an original script by hit maker Akiko Nogi. After being fired from his company and divorcing his wife, Bunta, a struggling salaryman, passes the audition for a certain company and decides to save the world as a "little psychic." Furthermore, in the company housing provided for him, he suddenly begins living with a stranger named Shiki (Aoi Miyazaki).
Bunta has friends who have also become slightly psychics, and Sakurasuke, played by Dean, is one of them. He usually works as a florist and has the ability to make buds bloom by stroking them. He is a self-proclaimed member of the group who is a bit of a jerk.
The character is a bit of a fool, so the role is very different from the image of the so-called "O-Dean-sama." In order to get closer to the image of Sakurasuke, who has short black hair, a beard and a muscular build, Dean revealed, "The producer told me to 'get in shape' and 'get a tan,' so I became a member of a tanning salon. I'm taking the 'Heisei Gal Course' (laughs)."
Regarding how he felt when he received the offer for this work, he commented, "I think I heard about it a year ago... right after the movie 'The Last Mile' was released. So I was really excited to be able to act again with Nogi's script. When I first read the script, the scenery came to mind and I thought it was like reading a novel. I'm looking forward to the next installment, it's a worthwhile read. Even before I even considered playing the character Sakurasuke, I was drawn into the world of 'A Little Bit Esper'."
"Please watch this film while asking yourself, 'If you could be just a little bit esper, what kind of ability would you like to have?' and let a flower of your own color bloom. Let's all get excited about 'Just a Little Bit esper'! Stay tuned!"
