" We Still Don't Know the School Rules of That Planet ," which began airing on July 14th and is actor Hayato Isomura 's first lead role in a commercial TV drama series, has aired up to episode 5. Produced by Kansai TV, the school drama airs on Fuji TV at 10pm on Mondays. Avid fans have commented, "It's a very gentle world, it's soothing," and "It's my favorite drama of the season," so we took a look at the student cast, who are giving brilliant performances throughout the series.
◇ There are also scenes filled with youthful energy typical of a summer school drama.
The drama, also abbreviated as "Bokuhoshi," is an original story by Mika Omori, known for her work on the 2015 Asadora"Asa ga Kita" and the 2021 taiga drama "Aoi Ten wo Tsuke." The story follows the protagonist, Kenji Shiratori (played by Isomura), who is timid and clumsy due to his unique sensibilities. He is dispatched as a school lawyer to a private high school that is struggling with the transition to coeducation due to the declining birthrate. He desperately tries to confront the youthful problems that cannot be easily solved by law or school rules.
The story is set at Hama Solaris High School, a private high school that was recently formed by the merger of Hamaura Technical High School, an all-boys school, and Hama Yuri Girls' Academy, an all-girls school. One problem after another arises at the school. The first episode deals with uniforms (school rules), the second with dating (is heartbreak bullying?), the third with voyeurism, and the fourth with information leaks, and each episode focuses on a specific student.
The most recent episode, Episode 5, showed five students who had been involved in previous problems and had actively participated in them, coming together as members of the revived Astronomy Club and attending a summer training camp at Kenji's parents' house.
The members of the club are Takase Yusuke (played by Rui Tsukishima), Emi Mei (played by Tsukishima Rui), Miki Mizuki (played by Kondo Hana), Fujimura Shogo (played by Hinata Wataru), and Saito Mizuho (played by Minami Kotona). They are joined by Uchida Keito (played by Koshiyama Takatoshi) from the Biological Sciences Club, who spend the night enjoying the meteor shower, creating a scene full of youthful energy befitting a summer school drama.
◇From here on out, we can look forward to the many young people who will lead the next generation.
Along with this "scene of youth," the cast of students will also be engraved in the hearts of viewers. Nose began her career as a fashion model while in high school, and made her TV drama debut in "The Best Teacher: One Year Later, I Was Killed by My Student" (NTV, 2023), and has since expanded her horizons as an actor. Tsukishima is a current Seventeen model who played the heroine in the popular manga-based drama "Teasing Master Takagi-san" (TBS, 2024) and served as the 20th cheering manager for the All Japan High School Soccer Championship.
Kondo is still fresh in our memory for taking on the difficult role of the daughter of a death row inmate who suffers from selective mutism in last year's Sunday Theater drama "Anti-Hero" (TBS), while Hinata attracted attention in the special effects drama "Kamen Rider Revise" (TV Asahi, broadcast from 2021 to 2022), and after appearing in the Sunday Theater drama "Get Ready!" (2023), she played Sanada Yukimura, one of the most popular warlords of the Sengoku period, in the NHK Taiga drama "What Will Ieyasu Do?" in the same year.
Minami will also play a beautiful hostess in the film "Meets the World," starring Hana Sugisaki Hana, which will be released on October 24th, showing a completely different look from her appearance in "Bokuhoshi." Koshiyama won numerous awards for new talent for his first starring role in the film "My Sun" (2024), and is also appearing in the hit film "National Treasure."
Furthermore, Yukito Hidaka, who plays Takano Yoshinori, the student council president featured in the first episode, is a member of the Dongyu Club, a group of talented actors, and appeared in the NHK Asadora drama Anpan, a freshman soldier in the Kokura Regiment. Hina Kikuchi, who plays Hori Marika, featured in the second episode, is a highly popular gravure idol, nicknamed the "Reiwa Sold-Out Queen," and also works as a non-no model. There are plenty of young actors who will lead the next generation, and we can look forward to seeing what happens next.
While each of them has a different background, they still display their untouched "greenness" as actors, bringing a refreshing breeze to the work, which is a major attraction of the show. It will be interesting to see what kind of story they will weave as the drama enters its second half.
