It has been revealed that the song "Kaede" released by the popular band Spitz in 1998 will be adapted into a movie. The movie is a love story directed by Yukisada Isao, known for "Crying Out Love in the Center of the World," and written by Takahashi Izumi, known for "Solanin" and "Tokyo Revengers." It is scheduled to be released on December 19th.
"Kaede" is a track from the eighth album "Fake Fur" released in 1998, and was released as a single from the album in the same year. The lyrics of the chorus, "Goodbye, I'll walk with you in my arms," are widely known, and it is a classic song that has been covered by many artists, including Yumi Matsutoya and Moka Kamishiraishi.
The movie, which is based on the song, has the keywords "precious memories," "beautiful change," and "modesty," which are also the flower language of maples. The main characters are a man and a woman who have lost someone important in their lives, and the movie depicts the two of them trying to move forward despite the passing of time through the beautiful changing of the seasons.
◇Director Yukisada Isao
This film is about people who can't recover from loss.
Love reveals not only human beauty, but also foolishness and selfishness. Therefore, weakness and cunning that cannot survive alone are involved. The flower language of maples is "harmony," "beautiful change," "precious memories," and "modesty."
I wanted to depict a love story with "restraint" at the core of this story. A man who holds back his feelings for the sake of others and thinks of them. A woman who, while aware of his feelings, continues to think of the one she lost. I made "Crying Out Love, In the Center of the World" 20 years ago. That film ended with the protagonist deciding to walk again with the one he lost in his heart. 20 years later, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to be involved in a story of rebirth inspired by Spitz's famous song.
◇ Producer Yoko Ide
Spitz's "Kaede" is a classic song that has never faded and has been loved by many people for a long time. For me, it is no exaggeration to say that it is a song that I have listened to throughout my life. As I grew older and experienced separations, it always guided me to the future.
The flower language of "maple" means "harmony," "beautiful change," "precious memories," and "modesty." In life, there are many farewells, and everyone will experience loss. That sadness will not heal immediately. Still, the seasons continue to pass by unchanged.
As time passes, various emotions intersect in a complex way. Feelings that you can't forget, that you don't want to forget. New feelings that are born. How do people live with feelings that are sometimes cruel because they are too pure? I wanted to portray the beautiful changes in the feelings of men and women with precious memories in their hearts.
I hope that this film, born from "Kaede," will touch someone's life and give them hope for the future.
