It has been announced that the total number of copies of the popular light novel series "Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon (DanMachi)" by Fujino Omori of GA Bunko (SB Creative) has exceeded 20 million. This is the first time that the total number of copies of a GA Bunko work has exceeded 20 million. The original author, Fujino Omori, commented, "Amazing! I'm so happy! 20 million copies! That's how it feels! Thank you so much to all the people who have picked up the story of DanMachi!"
"DanMachi" won the first grand prize at the GA Bunko Grand Prize, a light novel award for new writers, and the first volume was published in January 2013. The story depicts the adventures of a young boy named Bell and his friends in a huge city with a large underground labyrinth. The latest volume, 21, will be released in October.
The first season of the TV anime aired from April to June 2015, and the ribbon on the goddess Hestia's costume became a hot topic online, with people calling it "that famous string." The second season aired from July to September 2019, the third from October to December 2020, the fourth from July to October 2022 and January to March 2023, and the fifth from October 2024 to March 2025. The spin-off, Sword Oratoria, was also made into a TV anime and aired from April to July 2017.
SB Creative's e-book sales site, "SBCr e-book store," will be releasing volumes 1-10 and volumes 1-10 of the spin-off "Sword Oratoria" for free from May 22 to June 22. There will also be a sale where volumes 1-18 and volumes 1-12 of the spin-off will be priced at 200 yen.
