According to the movie attendance rankings for May 16th to 18th (surveyed by Kogyo Tsushinsha) announced on May 19th, the latest film adaptation of the popular anime " Detective Conan " based on the manga by Gosho Aoyama, " Detective Conan: One-Eyed Flashback of the One-Eyed" (directed by Shigehara Katsuya), topped the charts for the fifth consecutive week. Over the three-day weekend, it attracted an audience of approximately 346,000 people and grossed approximately 516 million yen. In total, the film attracted 8.43 million people and grossed over 12.2 billion yen.
The latest installment of the popular action movie "Mission: Impossible" series starring American actor Tom Cruise, "Mission: Impossible - Final Reckoning" (directed by Christopher McQuarrie), which began screening on May 17, ranked second. Over the two days of the weekend, it attracted an audience of about 281,000 people and grossed about 449 million yen.
Among the first-time entries, "Blank Canvas: My So-Called Artist's Journey" (directed by Seki Kazuaki), a film adaptation of manga artist Higashimura Akiko's autobiographical manga starring actress Nagano Mei, started off in 4th place, drawing in around 125,000 viewers and earning around 170 million yen in box office revenue in the three days since its release on May 16. "Kaneko Sashiiriten" (directed by Furukawa Go), a human suspense film starring Ryuhei Maruyama of the popular group "SUPER EIGHT," made its debut in 8th place, while "Substance" (directed by Coralie Farjat), starring Demi Moore as a former popular actress who becomes obsessed with youth and beauty and tries a new regenerative medicine, made its debut in 9th place.
Among existing titles, Minecraft: The Movie (directed by Jared Hess) came in third, drawing in around 231,000 viewers over the three-day weekend and earning around 296 million yen. Cumulative totals have reached 2.33 million viewers and over 3 billion yen in box office revenue. #IWillTellYouTheTruth (directed by Toyoshima Keisuke), in its fourth week since release, came in fifth, drawing in a total of 1.28 million viewers and over 1.7 billion yen in box office revenue. In 10th place was Thunderbolts* (directed by Jake Schreier), drawing in a total of 620,000 viewers and over 1 billion yen in box office revenue.
