The 11th installment of the "100 Monster Scenes in Anime" project for the anime " Kaiju No. 8, " based on the popular manga by Naoya Matsumoto currently being serialized on Shueisha's manga app "Shonen Jump+," has been released. The project depicts scenes from daily life and battles with monsters that are not depicted in the main story, and allows viewers to imagine "a world where monsters appear." The 11th installment is themed on Children's Day. It shows Kaiju No. 8 holding a kashiwa-mochi rice cake and gazing at a carp streamer with a monster motif.
"Kaiju No. 8" has been serialized in "Shonen Jump+" since July 2020. Set in Japan, a monster superpower where monsters mercilessly invade everyday life, the story follows the adventures of the protagonist, Kafka Hibino, whose body has been transformed into a monster by a mysterious creature. It also attracted attention in 2021 when it was selected as the grand prize winner in the web manga category of the "Next Manga Awards 2021." The comic has sold over 18 million copies in Japan.
The anime will be produced by Production IG, which has worked on the Ghost in the Shell series, and Studio Khara, which has worked on the Rebuild of Evangelion series, will be in charge of monster design and works. The first season of the TV anime will be broadcast from April to June 2024, and it was also a hot topic that it was streamed worldwide in real time on Twitter in conjunction with the TV broadcast.
The second season will be broadcast on TV Tokyo and other channels from July.
