Actor Miki Nakatani attended a press conference to announce her appointment as official ambassador for the Vienna State Opera's 2025 Japan Tour, held in Tokyo on April 4th.
Nakatani, who is based in both Austria and Japan, spreads the appeal of classical music and performing arts.
Nakatani, who has a friend who is an opera singer, began by saying, "They may be replaced by AI, but..." she continued, "I call it an Olympics with no winners or losers, but it's the extreme limits of the human body. Singers go on stage in fear that they might lose their voice tomorrow. Just thinking about that makes me want to cry," she said, tearing up as she thought about the future of opera singers.
He continued, "I hope that everyone will be able to enjoy the voices of those who are singing, putting their fragile voices and fragile careers as singers on the line, before they are replaced by AI."
The Vienna State Opera's Japan tour began in 1980, and this is their first tour in nine years since 2016. Popular director Barry Costley will be directing "The Marriage of Figaro" (October 5-12), and "Der Rosenkavalier" (October 20-26), which has been performed more than 1,000 times in Vienna, at the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan (Taito Ward).
