To commemorate the opening of the Kochikame Memorial Museum (Katsushika Ward, Tokyo), a tourist facility where visitors can enjoy the world of Akimoto Osamu's popular manga Kochikame, on March 22nd, a new short story about Kochikame was published in the 17th issue of Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha), released on the 24th. A new short story was also published in Shueisha Jump Remix's currently on sale, "Osamu Akimoto's Nice! Choice Kochikame LIVE!! 10 'March 25th".
"Kochikame" is a comedy manga set in downtown Tokyo, depicting the chaos caused by Ryotsu Kankichi, a police officer with extraordinary physical strength and a warm personality. It began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1976 and ran for about 40 years until 2016. 201 volumes of the comic have been released, with a total circulation of over 150 million copies. It has also been made into an anime, a live-action film, a stage play, and a game.
"Kochikame THE BEST" from "Shueisha Jump Remix," a series of re-edited comics from Shueisha's classic manga, is published on the second Friday of every month, while "Osamu Akimoto's Nice! Choice Kochikame LIVE!!," in which Akimoto himself carefully selects his best episodes, is published on the fourth Friday of every month.
