It has been announced that the popular duo "Yuzu" will be in charge of the opening theme "GET BACK" for the new chapter of the TV anime "Pokemon" "Mega Voltage". This will be the first time Yuzu has worked on an anime theme song in about seven years since 2018. The latest PV for the anime has been released on YouTube, and a part of the song has been unveiled.
"GET BACK" is a new song by Yuzu, with lyrics co-written by Kitagawa Yuujin and Iwasawa Koji. Pokémon motifs are scattered throughout the song, and it contains a message about regaining lost goals, dreams, and futures. This is the first time in about five years that Kitagawa and Iwasawa have collaborated on lyrics since the song "Koshi Kondou" released in 2020. "GET BACK" will be used as the opening theme for the one-hour special that will air on April 11, the first episode of the new chapter.
Kitagawa commented, "I feel very honored to be the opening theme for the Pokemon anime, which is loved all over the world by people of all ages, genders, and generations. The Pokemon anime began airing in 1997, and Yuzu debuted in the same year. In a sense, it is a collaboration between two "contemporaries," and I felt a deep connection and destiny. Under the banner of "GET BACK," a new chemical reaction has occurred between Yuzu and Pokemon. I would be happy if this song continues to evolve and resonate with all those who love Pokemon."
Iwasawa said, "I felt very honored, but to be honest, it was a surprise. I was like, 'Is it really okay for Yuzu to be the one?' The previous theme songs have been very pop, and many of them have been songs that fit the anime, so I thought a lot about how much Yuzu could fit into this song, and whether it would be accepted by anime Pokemon fans. This opening theme is filled with Yuzu's respect for Pokemon. I hope that people will be excited every week when they watch and listen to this song."
It was also announced that Natsumi Fujiwara will voice Ult, a new character who will appear in the new chapter. Fujiwara commented, "Since I was a child, I have watched the anime, watched the movies, and played the original games, so when I found out I would be involved in a series with such a long history, I was surprised, but also very happy! Ult seems like a breath of fresh air among Riko, Roy, and the others, and I think his childlike nature is on full display and adorable in the way he is so competitive with Roy. I hope everyone will look forward to seeing what kind of adventures Ult will go on with Roy and the others!"
The new series of the TV anime "Pokemon" will begin airing in April 2023. The story is set in the entire Pokémon world, with the main characters, a young girl named Riko and a young boy named Roy, going on an adventure with their Pokémon. It will air every Friday at 6:55 pm on TV Tokyo.
