It has been announced that the fourth animated film based on the popular character Sumikko Gurashi,"Sumikko Gurashi 4 the Movie" (tentative title), will be produced and released in the fall of 2025. It was also announced that, following on from the previous film, Yoshihiko Inohara and Manami Honjo will be in charge of narration. Fanworks will be producing the anime.
Inohara commented, "I am truly happy to be able to participate in ' Sumikko Gurashi' this fall. I am looking forward to spending some cozy time with the Sumikkogurashi characters. I look forward to seeing you at the movie theater this fall!"
Motogami said, "I am excited to hear that yet another Sumikkogurashi movie is being made. We have already seen a classic picture book, a wizard, and an old toy factory, so I wonder what the next story will be! Welcome back, Inohara-san! Your gentle, warm voice that comforts the Sumikkogurashi is one of a kind. I have been looking forward to the day we could work together again. The new movie will not be completed soon. I hope everyone looks forward to the day we can see it on the big screen!"
A congratulatory illustration drawn by Yuri Yokomizo, the creator of Sumikko Gurashi, was also released. With a refreshing blue sky as the background, the Sumikkogurashi characters are gathered together and look up in joy at the clouds in the shape of the number "4."
Sumikko Gurashi is a popular character that has been developed by San-X, known for Tarepanda and Rilakkuma, since 2012. The first film, " Sumikko Gurashi the Movie: The Pop-up Picture Book and the Secret Child" (directed by Mankyu), was released in 2019, the second film, " Sumikko Gurashi the Movie: The Magical Child of a Blue Moonlit Night" (directed by Omori Takahiro), was released in 2021, and the third film, " Sumikko Gurashi the Movie: The Mysterious Child of the Patchwork Factory" (directed by Sakuda Hazumu), was released in 2023. The series has been gaining popularity, with the cumulative audience numbers for the first three films exceeding 3 million.
