It has been announced that the TV anime "With You and the Rain to," based on the popular manga by Nikaido Yuki that is currently serialized in the manga magazine "Young Magazine" (Kodansha), will be broadcast on TV Asahi's late-night anime slot "NUMAnimation" starting in July.
Additional cast members have also been announced, including Anna Mugiho as "You (Kimi)," the dog (?) who is picked up by the main character Fuji, Youji Ueda as Fuji's father Tatsuo, Mie Sonozaki as Fuji's mother Michiko, Kikunosuke Toya as Fuji's twin brother Teru, Yumiri Hanamori as Teru's wife Wako, and Chafurin as a veterinarian at the animal hospital.
Mugiho, who plays the other main character, Kimi, commented, "I have the impression that tanuki are silent creatures. I imagine their presence and movements to be very quiet. In fact, I came across the original manga by chance before I was approached about the role, and I even thought, I hoped that if it was made into an anime, 'Kimi' wouldn't have a voice...! I even thought that in the quiet life with Fuji, Fuji would surely be able to hear your breathing, so I voiced each episode as if I was getting as close to you as possible. The world of ' With You and the Rain' is detailed, delicate and cute, somehow cold but kind. It's a work that makes you feel as if even the parts of yourself that you can't even look at have a place to belong. Please look forward to the anime version of ' With You and the Rain'!"
The story depicts the heartwarming and precious daily life of a person and a pet who meet on a rainy night. The manga, which was published on X (Twitter), became a hot topic and was serialized in Young Magazine.
The anime will be directed by Tsukimisato Tomohiro, known for "Tanuki to Kitsune" and "Ueno-san wa Bukiyou," and produced by Lespri. Saori Hayami will play one of the main characters, Fuji, a female novelist who loves rain.
