It has been announced that actors Takayuki Yamada and Mizuki Yamashita will appear as guest voice actors in the latest film version of the popular anime " Detective Conan", "Detective Conan: One-Eyed Flashback of the One-Eyed". This will be Yamashita's first time trying her hand at voice acting, and she will play Madoka Marui, a researcher at the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan's Nobeyama facility, which is equipped with a huge parabolic antenna.
Yamashita commented, "I'm glad I've worked so hard to get to this point and am so happy to be able to take part in a production of Detective Conan, which has been loved since I was a child. I'm also very honored to have been given this opportunity. Madoka Marui is a researcher at an observatory. In fact, I had the opportunity to visit the TV anime dubbing site beforehand and was very moved to see how the characters are brought to life. Yamada plays Otomo Takashi, who runs a charcoal burner's hut in the mountains of Nagano Prefecture. When Yamada participated in the red carpet at the 1st Yokohama International Film Festival in 2023, he appeared on stage following the "Detective Conan: Black Iron Submarine" team, and promoted "Detective Conan" even though he was not appearing in the film, by wearing the black-rimmed glasses he had put on in his chest and posing for a photo session with the words "The Detective Conan is always one!"
Yamada said, "I've been watching the series since it first aired on TV when I was a child, so I was genuinely happy to be able to take part in the production. I've always liked Kogoro Mori, but when I looked at the materials I saw that I was older than him...and Kogoro was younger (laughs). The character I played this time, Otomo Takashi, is the owner of a charcoal burner's hut, and in my normal acting I use my whole body to express myself, so I thought it was indeed difficult to convey realism through dubbing with just my voice and emotions, but I also made new discoveries and learned a lot. I haven't seen the finished product yet, but as a fan of Kogoro Mori, I'm looking forward to seeing Kogoro in action in the finished product! I hope everyone will look forward to it as well!"
Producers Kondo Shuho, Yoshida Tsuyoshi, and Okada Yuhei explained their reasons for casting Yamada and Yamashita, saying, "This is a mysterious person living alone in the mountains. We are convinced that only Takayuki Yamada, who combines exceptional acting ability and unpredictable charm, could play this role. He has beautifully expressed the depth of a man who is carrying something inside. Meanwhile, there is an important character who signals the beginning of the incident. We wanted Mizuki Yamashita, who is shining with the freshest light right now, to play this role. "Afterimage of the One-Eyed" is set in the snowy mountains of Nagano Prefecture, and depicts the "sleeping memory" that connects two seemingly unrelated people, Kogoro, who is asleep, and Gansuke, a Nagano Prefectural Police officer. While Gansuke is chasing a "certain man" in the snowy mountains, a bullet grazes his left eye and he is caught in an avalanche. Ten months later, Gansuke miraculously survives and receives a report that a researcher at Nobeyama Observatory has been attacked by someone, and rushes to the scene, but as soon as the observatory's parabolic antenna starts moving, his one-eyed left eye suddenly begins to tingle. Kogoro Mouri and Conan are on their way to a meeting place with a former colleague from the Metropolitan Police Department who is investigating the avalanche accident, when a gunshot rings out.
"Detective Conan" is a manga that depicts Conan Edogawa solving difficult cases one after another, and began serialization in "Weekly Shonen Sunday" (Shogakukan) in 1994. A TV anime series has been broadcast since 1996. The total number of comics published is over 270 million.
The 27th movie in the series, "Detective Conan: One million dollar guidepost," released this year, broke the box office record of 15.8 billion yen, setting a new record for the highest box office revenue in the series' history. The 28th movie, "Afterimage of an Eye," will be released on April 18.
