We interviewed actor Mio Fuyuno , who plays "Red" Gojuu Wolf/ Hoeru Tono in " No.1 Sentai Gozyuger " (TV Asahi, 9:30 a.m.), which started on February 16th. We asked him about his career so far, who he admires, and more.
Fuyuno was born on December 3, 2003, and is 21 years old. She is from Yamaguchi Prefecture and is affiliated with the talent agency Stardust Promotion. Her name is pronounced "Mio" and is pronounced "Kokoro". When asked about the origin of her name, she smiled and said, "My mother gave it to me." She continued, "'O' means wide, and it seems to mean that you should treat everyone with a kind heart."
He began his entertainment career in 2020 after being scouted. "I had always wanted to be an actor, but at first I wasn't sure if I could actually become one. But when I moved to Tokyo for university, I decided to give it a try."
He has been watching special effects films since he was a child, such as "Samurai Sentai Shinkenger" (2009-2010), and revealed that "I auditioned every year since I moved to Tokyo. But I didn't have enough skill and I was rejected. I don't know what it was this time... I had a feeling that it was easy to say the lines. Maybe it's because I was able to empathize with Hou's thoughts and hidden feelings? It was easy to act (from the audition)."
Hou is the protagonist of this work, but he is a character with a mysterious background. His memorable line is, "After all, I'm just an outcast in this world. My life is cheap." "When you think of the Reds in the Sentai, you think of them as people who take on leadership roles, but (the Gojugers) are both friends and rivals. It's a strange relationship, so rather than pulling everyone along, it's more like everyone naturally follows them. I've heard about Hou's past, and it will be revealed why he has come to think the way he does, so I hope you'll pay attention!"
Speaking of howling, one of his defining features is howling "Aaaaah!" when transforming. "I do the howling during the post-recording, and I do it on set too... but after several takes my throat gets pretty tight (laughs). But (compared to the beginning) I'm gradually getting used to howling."
Yuki Hayama , who appeared in the previous work " Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger, " and Hidekazu Chinen , who stars in " Kamen Rider Gavv, " currently airing in the same "Nichiasa" time slot, are in the same agency. "I had the opportunity to take acting lessons with Hayama, and he's a reliable senior. Even when acting (in lessons), he would take the initiative and show leadership, saying things like, 'Let's do it like this,' and I thought it was really cool! I'd like to go out to dinner someday, but I haven't been able to invite him yet... (laughs). I've only met Chinen once, so we haven't had any interaction, so I'd like to become closer friends in the future!"
Her role model and "idol" in the entertainment industry is a senior actor from the same agency. "It's Ryusei Yokohama! I've seen all of his movies from the past few years, including ' UNBOUND' (in which he is currently appearing), and I love everything about him, from the way he stands to the way he speaks, and I really admire him..." she said excitedly.
Yokohama-san is also a former Sentai member, having appeared in "Ressha Sentai ToQger" (2014-2015). When asked, "Do you want to continue, Fuyuno-san?", he replied enthusiastically, "Yes, I do... but he's a big presence. I'll do my best to meet him someday."
"No.1 Sentai Gozyuger" is a work commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Super Sentai series. The story is about five heroes with animal and dinosaur motifs fighting against the "Number One Monster" who has topped all fields, rivals with the power of past Reds, and even Gojugers themselves, in order to obtain the "Sentai Ring," a ring that is said to grant any wish if all are collected.
