America was born as people in search of new horizons flocked to the vast continent. As people moved across the country, values clashed, and from this conflict new societies and cultures were born. This film traces the history of America, a country that built prosperity while absorbing people's dreams and despair.
The Great Migration began during the 19th century's Western expansion. When gold was discovered in California, people headed west in hopes of striking it rich. In the 1920s, black people from the South began migrating to industrial cities in the North to escape discrimination, and in the 1930s, people from the Midwest who were hit by huge dust storms headed to California. After the war, young hippies headed west, and the IT revolution began to take root. Narrated by announcer Itoi Yoji.
