It has been announced that a new game called "Samurai Pizza Cats: Blast from the Past!" will be produced for the anime "Samurai Pizza Cats Ninja Chronicles Teyandee" that aired from 1990 to 1991. A trailer was also released in which the original voice actors, including Kappei Yamaguchi who played Yattaro, reunited, and Yamaguchi, Orikasa Ai who played Pururun, and Yamashita Seiichiro, who took over the role of Skullshii from Kosugi Jurota, all provided comments.
The new game is a 2D action RPG developed by Dutch game studio BLAST ZERO and distributed worldwide by Red Dunes Games in the United Arab Emirates. Set in Edoropolis, just like the anime, players will instantly switch between members of the secret ninja squad Yankee and utilize each character's abilities to solve puzzles and battles.
Satoru Akahori, who was in charge of the series composition of the anime, will be supervising the translation of the script, and the original voice actors Yamaguchi, Orikasa, Sawaki Fumiya, who plays Kounmori Kitsutsuka, Tatsuta Naoki, who plays Karasugen Narisai, and Horiuchi Kenyuu, the narrator, will be reuniting. The trailer released has a cel-like image that is very similar to the original anime when it was broadcast.
"Ninja Cats Teyandee" is set in Edoropolis, a city inhabited by animal-type robots, and depicts the secret ninja team Yankee cracking down on the evil ninja group, the Karakara Clan, who threaten the peace of the city. It has been broadcast on television around the world since the early 1990s under the title "Samurai Pizza Cats," and continues to enjoy enduring popularity today.
◇Comment from Kappei Yamaguchi(role of Yattaro)
Yattaro is one of my roots as a voice actor, along with Ranma, so ever since I heard that the game was being made, I really wanted to play him, and I was really happy when it came true. I was surprised to hear that it was in the Netherlands (lol), but it felt great to experience an "invincible victory!" after such a long time! I love Yattaro!!
The fun exchanges between Kon-chan and Gen-chan, Kenyu-san's witty narration, and the exciting introductions of the Yankees. It was a happy recording that made me feel like I was back in the studio back then. I was also surprised at how the trailer reproduced the original cel animation so faithfully, and I could feel the love of the Dutch staff. Thank you to Seiichiro Yamashita, who joined us for the first time as Sukashy!
Congratulations on the 35th anniversary of "Cat Ninja Legend Teyandee"! As time passes since it was first broadcast, I feel like I'm hearing more and more people say, "I loved Teyandee!" I'm really happy that it continues to be loved overseas as well. It's a work that I want to cherish from now on, and Yattaro is an irreplaceable and important character to me.
◇Comment from Ai Orikasa (voice of Pururun)
First of all, I was impressed by the quality of the video! I was happy to feel the love the game production team has for the game. I was also excited by the exchange between Kornmori and Gen Nari Sai, and it was a long time since I last uttered Pururun's catchphrase.
It's hard to believe it was 35 years ago, but this is still a work I love and it hasn't faded away. When I entered the studio with the wonderful regular cast members, including Katsuhira-san, Pururun's lines came out naturally. Yamashita-san, the new cast member playing Sukashi, also captured the atmosphere very well and was a cool Sukashi.
The drinking party (lol) was fun too. I'm sure the good atmosphere of the production team was conveyed to the viewers. I'm very happy to have been involved in a work that is still loved by so many people after 35 years. Please continue to support "Cat Ninja Den Teyandee."
◇Comment from Seiichiro Yamashita (role of Skullshii)
I'm sorry, but this was the first time I learned about this work. It's rare to be involved in a work that was made before you were born, so it's a strange feeling. We were able to record the trailer with everyone, including Kappei Yamaguchi, and it was a happy experience to be able to enjoy the acting of my great seniors up close.
I still feel humbled to have taken over the role. It was my first time to play a role that someone else had played, so I gave a lot of thought to the role so as not to destroy the image of Sukasy that fans have of him. I was saved by the words of the production staff, and it was a rare experience.
The work will continue to remain in someone's heart somewhere in the world. And that love has taken shape. There is nothing more wonderful than this, and this connection is a great treasure in my acting career. Please continue to support me in the future!
