Nestle Japan is collaborating with artist Luna Kuranaka to hold a limited-time experiential project, "Nescafe Let's Make Cherry Blossoms Bloom Together Art Cafe" at Nescafe Harajuku (Shibuya Ward, Tokyo) until February 28th. You can enjoy limited-time cherry blossom drinks and sweets filled with the feeling of spring in a space surrounded by Kuranaka's artwork.
The limited menu was supervised by Kuranaka. The drinks on offer include the "Sakura Latte" (680 yen), a cafe latte decorated with whipped cream and cherry blossom petals, and the "Sakura Parfait" (1,580 yen), a glass filled with strawberries, white peaches, strawberry and coconut panna cotta, strawberry sorbet, and more, topped with cherry blossom sorbet and fresh cream.
This project will also include an art project in which visitors can participate. Visitors will choose one of six colored petal stickers and paste it onto the canvas painted by Kuranaka to complete a cherry blossom in full bloom. The completed work will be donated to hospitals in Tokyo after March. In addition, an airtight canister called "Nescafe Keepo" designed based on this work is scheduled to go on sale in late March.
On the 6th, the opening day, a press conference was held for the media, where Kuranaka made an appearance. Kuranaka commented on the canvas base of the participatory art project, "I'm looking forward to seeing what happens, as visitors will be the ones to make the petals bloom. Works that are drawn freely tend to be more beautiful than those that are drawn using the mind. I'm excited to see what kind of cherry blossoms will bloom."
Regarding the limited menu he oversaw, he said, "I think the Sakura Latte and Sakura Parfait are fun to eat and fun to look at. I hope you can enjoy them in various ways."
