A special exhibition commemorating the 50th anniversary of the broadcast of the popular anime "Space Battleship Yamato," "Space Battleship Yamato Space Battleship Yamato Record Exhibition," will be held at Seibu Shibuya in Shibuya, Tokyo from March 15th to 31st. The exhibition was planned and produced by director Hideaki Anno, who said, "I wouldn't be who I am today if I hadn't encountered Space Battleship Yamato," and will display valuable materials from the time, including proposals, character and mechanic design drawings, selected from materials stored by the nonprofit organization Anime Special Effects Archive Organization (ATAC). Original goods will also be on sale.
Interim materials such as the original proposal documents, setting materials, background art, and cel drawings from the time of the project's launch will be exhibited along the 26 episodes. The exhibition will allow visitors to relive the work and experience the origins of this masterpiece that built the foundation of anime history.
The history of the TV anime series from the first broadcast in 1974 to the remake series will be introduced in chronological order. Records from that time and nostalgic items will be on display, as well as a model of the giant Yamato ship. A collaboration cafe will open at 365cafe inside the museum, offering special menus and food and drinks inspired by famous scenes.
Director Anno commented, "Japanese anime began with Space Battleship Yamato, which was aired half a century ago on October 6, 1974. I don't think I would be who I am today if I hadn't encountered such an epoch-making work as Space Battleship Yamato at that time. With gratitude, respect, and gratitude for the great influence I am grateful to Yamato for and the impact it has had on my life, I would be delighted to preserve as many existing materials about Space Battleship Yamato as possible for future generations, and to have as many people as possible see, learn about, be moved by, and spread the word about it to the world in the form of a complete exhibition. I would like to start in Shibuya, Tokyo this March. Thank you for your support."
