It has been revealed that the best-selling novel "Bomb" (Kodansha) by Wu Shenghao, which depicts a battle of wits in an interrogation room between a mysterious bomber and the police and which ranked first in "This Mystery is Amazing! 2023 Edition" (Takarajimasha) and other publications, will be made into a movie starring Yuki Yamada and released this year.
A mysterious middle-aged man is taken into police custody after assaulting a vending machine and its clerk in a drunken state. The man, who calls himself "Suzuki Tagosaku," claims to have psychic powers and warns of the presence of bombs planted in Tokyo. He predicts that the bombs will explode three times every hour, starting with one in Akihabara. He then dodges the detectives' questions and gradually begins to ask mysterious "quizzes" about the bombs. This is the story. This popular work won first place in both the domestic editions of "This Mystery is Amazing! 2023 Edition" and Hayakawa Mystery Magazine's "I Want to Read Mysteries 2023 Edition," and is directed by Nagai Satoshi, known for "Character," "Love is Like After the Rain," and "Teiichi no Kuni."
Yamada plays Ruike, a negotiator at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department's First Investigative Division who confronts Suzuki Tagosaku. "I'm fighting every day with the wonderful director, cast, and staff. Now it's just a matter of whether I can capture this character. I hope this will be a work of hope that inspires everyone to face this world with sincerity," he said.
The cast of police officers who will face off against Tagosaku Suzuki has also been announced. Sari Ito will play Koda, a police officer working at the police box who is busy searching for the bomb, Shota Sometani will play Todoroki, a local detective who is investigating Tagosaku Suzuki's past, and Atsuro Watanabe will play Kiyomiya, Ruike's boss who also negotiates with Tagosaku Suzuki.
Planner and producer Okada Shota commented, "When I first presented this proposal to the director, I told him that I wanted to deliver a 'real movie' that wasn't just 'fun' or 'interesting.' We struggled with writing the script, and we made preparations by exchanging opinions many times. Filming is also progressing with high-level discussions every day. I can say with certainty that it has already surpassed the world I imagined when I first heard about it from that one proposal. I have a strong feeling that this will be an incredible work. Please look forward to it."
