Fuji TV is the first commercial broadcaster to surpass 1 billion views of AVOD (free streaming with advertisements) from January 1 to December 31, 2024. It was revealed on January 6 that the number of views reached 1,051,550,000 (119% up from the previous year). Viewing time also reached 475,280,000 hours, the highest record for a commercial broadcaster. It ranked first among commercial broadcasters in terms of number of views and viewing time, winning the double crown for AVOD for the year.
In variety shows, catch-up streaming was implemented for the first time in "FNS 27-Hour Television" (broadcast in July 2024). It recorded a total of approximately 5.03 million views. In regular programs, "Stories to Go With Alcohol" has a total of 36.7 million views for the year, and other prime-time 11pm programs such as "Is There Anything Interesting?" and "Talk Queens" as well as "Suddenly, Can I Tell You Your Fortune?" continue to maintain strong streaming numbers. In large-scale variety shows, "Asahi Beer Sumadori THE MANZAI 2024 Masters" (broadcast in December of the same year) saw a significant increase in views from the previous year, recording a total of 2.71 million views for the program.
In terms of dramas, the July "Monday 9" drama "The Beginning of the Sea" was well received, as were the special episode "The End of Love" and the TVer exclusive spin-off "The Beginning with My Brother", and the total number of views exceeded 73 million, making it TVer's most viewed drama throughout the year. The October Thursday Drama "My Precious" was also a hot topic. The final episode caused such a stir that the title of the show became the number one trending topic in the world, and achieved a total of approximately 35.03 million views.
From February to April, they held "Fujidora SPRING", which streamed over 40 new and old dramas at once, and at the end of the year, they held "Fujibara WINTER", which streamed 30 of the most popular variety shows from last year at once for the first time. Currently, they are running a large-scale campaign "Fujidora WINTER! 24", which has a lineup of over 70 shows, exceeding the previous campaign, until January 25th.
In addition to these campaigns, with the release of the latest films in the "Bayside Shakedown" series last fall, "Muroi Shinji: The One Who Continues to Live" and "Muroi Shinji: The Unconquerable", the drama series and some of the special dramas were archived and streamed. The total number of views was about 9.8 million, and the "Dancing" series became a big topic in movies, broadcasts and streaming.
The number of views for anime shows such as "One Piece" and "Chiikawa," as well as "Dragon Ball Daima," which began airing in October, has increased from the previous year. In addition, TVer's first daily sports live broadcast, an original program called "Sports! on TVer," which began streaming in March, has pioneered a new form of sports news program by combining daily live streaming and AVOD. With the off-season upon us, two programs, "Good Plays and Strange Plays News Sports! on TVer" and "Monday Football," are currently being streamed on Monday nights.
Masatoshi Satake, Chief General Manager of the Programming Department at the station, commented, "When we reached 100 million monthly views in July last year, the first time in the history of commercial broadcasting, we imagined that one day we might achieve 1 billion views per year, but we never thought we would achieve it in 2024. There are countless reasons for this achievement, such as the success of serial dramas such as the Monday 9pm drama ``The Beginning of the Sea,'' the abundance of classic dramas from the past, and the success of variety shows such as ``Stories that Make Great for Drinking.'' We see this as proof that Fuji TV's content has always been highly regarded as a target for ``active viewing.'' We feel that the recognition that ``When it comes to streaming, Fuji TV is the one,'' has finally become unshakable, and with TVer also growing steadily, we believe that there is still room for us to deliver television content to more people. Fuji TV will continue to lead the television industry's streaming market in 2025 and do our utmost to ensure that more people can enjoy interesting, safe and secure television content."
