It has been revealed that the latest work in the popular anime series "Gundam", "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX", will be produced. It will be produced by Sunrise and khara, known for the "Evangelion" series. This is the first time that Sunrise and khara have teamed up, and Kazuya Tsurumaki will be the director, Yoji Enokido will be the series composer, and Ikuto Yamashita will be in charge of mechanical design. The main character will be a high school girl named Amate Yuzuruha (Machu).
The announcement was made at the "Gundam Conference WINTER 2024" presentation, which was streamed on YouTube on December 4. The TV anime series will be broadcast on the Nippon Television Network, and ahead of the broadcast, a reconstructed version of some episodes, "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuX -Beginning-", will be screened at 373 theaters nationwide from January 17, 2025.
"Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX" is a story about Amate Yuzuriha (Machu), a high school girl who lives a peaceful life in a space colony floating in space, who meets a war refugee girl named Nyaan and gets involved in an illegal mobile suit duel competition, a clan battle. Amate, who goes by the entry name Machu, pilots the GQuuuuuX and throws herself into daily battles. At the same time, an unidentified mobile suit Gundam, which is being pursued by both the space army and the police, and its pilot, a boy named Shuuji, appear before her. The main character's machine, GQuuuuuuX, is a mysterious state-of-the-art mobile suit piloted by Machu, and participates in clan battles as a machine belonging to the Pomeranians.
Tomoyo Kurosawa will play Amate Yuzuriha, Yui Ishikawa will play Nyaan, a girl who works as an illegal courier, and Shimba Tsuchiya will play Shuuji Ito, a mysterious boy who appears before Machu and Nyaan.
Kurosawa commented, "On the production set, I was once again touched by the genes of Gundam, and while I was overwhelmed by its power and passion, I did my best. This is a high-calorie film where Director Tsurumaki's ideology overflows from all over the screen, and I am now simply looking forward to its release."
Ishikawa said, "Nyaan, a former refugee, is not good at communicating with others, but she is still a strong girl who has managed to survive on her own. She makes what might be her first friend, and how will she get caught up in it? Even we had no idea how it would end! Please look forward to Mobile Suit Gundam, created by Studio Khara!"
Tsuchiya commented, "Passing the audition for this film was a bolt from the blue for me. At first glance, Shuuji comes across as elusive and mysterious, but the words he speaks are facts for him, and are natural to him. I tried to weave my lines while keeping in mind the sensibilities of a normal boy. I hope you'll give them some thought!"
