According to the movie attendance rankings for the 15th to 17th (surveyed by Kogyo Tsushinsha) announced on November 18th, the second part of the new film two-part series "Muroi Shinji: The One Who Continues to Live" (directed by Motohiro Katsuyuki), the first in 12 years in the "Odoru" series, which began with Fuji TV's smash hit drama "Bayside Shakedown" (first aired in 1997), took the top spot on its debut. In the three days since its release, it attracted about 268,000 people and earned about 377 million yen in box office revenue. The cumulative results, including advance screenings held from November 8th to 10th, have already attracted 420,000 people and are approaching 600 million yen in box office revenue.
Among the films making their debut, "Gladiator II: A Hero Calls," the sequel to director Ridley Scott's Oscar-winning film about gladiator battles set in the Roman Empire, ranked third. In the first three days of its release, it attracted an audience of about 103,000 people and brought in a box office income of about 163 million yen.
Other notable films include "Yano-kun's Ordinary Days" (directed by Shinjo Takehiko), a live-action adaptation starring Yagi Yusei of Tamura Yui's popular romantic comedy manga about an extremely unlucky high school boy, which made its fifth appearance, and "BE: the ONE-MEANT TO BE-" (directed by Oh Yoon-dong and Kim Ha-min), the second installment of the live documentary by the seven-member dance and vocal group "BE:FIRST," debuted in sixth place. The first and second episodes of "SHOGUN," starring Sanada Hiroyuki, which won 18 awards at the 76th Emmy Awards, including the Drama Series Award, were released in theaters for a limited time and ranked eighth.
The movie version of "Attack on Titan: The Final Chapter - The Last Attack" (directed by Hayashi Yuichiro), which is the final chapter of the TV anime "Attack on Titan" based on the popular manga by Isayama Hajime, came in second, attracting around 125,000 viewers over the three-day weekend and earning around 179 million yen in box office revenue. In total, it attracted 380,000 viewers and made over 500 million yen in box office revenue.
