An event for Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem of Revenge, a new addition to the popular Gundam anime series, was held at TOHO Cinemas Roppongi Hills (Minato Ward, Tokyo) on October 12th. The original 3D anime focuses on the European front of the One Year War in the first Mobile Suit Gundam film, and is directed by Erasmus Brosdau of Germany, who has worked on anime films such as Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness. Brosdau will be the first foreign director to direct the Gundam series, and appeared at the event. "There was pressure as a director, but I focused on expressing what I believe in. I tried to bring out something that was unique to me."

Director Brosdau, producers Yura Hiroaki and Yatomi Kenichi appeared at the event. Mori Nanako, who voices Illya Solari in the Japanese dub, was also scheduled to appear, but was unable to attend due to poor health.

Director Brosdau said, "I'm from Germany. I'm honored to be the first foreign director of the Gundam series. I grew up playing with Gunpla since I was a child." He revealed his difficulties, saying, "Communication was a challenge. With people from various countries participating, it was hard to coordinate."

The series will be exclusively distributed worldwide on Netflix from October 17th. As it is a "Gundam for the world," producer Yura said, "The main language is English. We have to think about the nuances of English. It was difficult to translate the Japanese Gundam into English."

The story of Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem of Revenge is that 11 months after the outbreak of the One Year War, one of the bases under the occupation of the Zeon forces in Eastern Europe is seized by the Earth Federation Forces, and a mixed battalion including Illya Solari, who has just come down from space, heads out to recapture it. Bandai Namco Filmworks and SAFEHOUSE will produce it.
