It has been revealed that the title of the latest movie version of the popular anime "Doraemon", which will be the 44th film, will be "Doraemon the Movie: Nobita's Picture World Story". It will be released on March 7, 2025, as a commemorative work for the 45th anniversary of the "Doraemon the Movie" series. The latest film is set in the "world inside a painting", and it is a completely original story in which Doraemon and Nobita, along with the friends they meet in the painting, face off against a powerful enemy over a phantom jewel. It will be directed by Teramoto Yukiyo, who directed the TV anime "Doraemon" and became the first female director of the series with "Doraemon the Movie: Nobita's New Great Adventure into the Underworld ~Seven Magicians~" in 2007. Ito Kimihisa, who has written many scripts for the TV anime "Doraemon", will be in charge of the script for the "Doraemon the Movie" series for the first time.
A teaser trailer featuring original characters from the movie version was also released. The film shows Nobita using Doraemon's secret gadget, the hidden light, to enter the world inside the painting and discover the magnificent medieval European world of Arturia. Visuals of original characters Claire, a girl from Arturia; Milo, a boy who lives in Arturia and is good at drawing; and Chai, a little devil with wings, were also released.
Director Teramoto commented, "This is the first time I've directed a Doraemon movie in 12 years. I'm excited to be back in the world of adventure with Doraemon and friends again. In this Doraemon movie, the characters go on an adventure inside a painting, but even though the subject matter is art, there's nothing serious about it. It's a story that everyone from small children to adults can enjoy without having to think too hard. There's a lot to enjoy, with laughter, tears, emotion, action, and mystery, so please look forward to it!"
It was also announced that in commemoration of the 45th anniversary of the "Doraemon the Movie" series, a special event called "45th Anniversary of the Series! Doraemon the Movie Festival" will be held, where viewers can enjoy all the previous works at the theater. The films to be screened will be decided by fan vote. Of the 43 films released so far, the five films selected by vote will be screened for a limited time at 93 theaters nationwide from mid-January to early February 2025. Voting will be accepted from September 27th to October 31st on the official movie website. The films to be screened will be announced at a later date.
To commemorate the 45th anniversary of the "Doraemon the Movie" series and the 90th anniversary of Fujiko F. Fujio's birth, the official Doraemon YouTube channel will be renewed. After the renewal, the channel will deliver the latest information on the latest movie version as well as various "Doraemon"-related content. To commemorate the renewal, a live streaming event will be held from 6:30 pm on September 27th.
