It has been announced that a movie version of the anime Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, based on the manga by Cool Kyoushinsha, titled Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid: The Lonely Dragon, will be produced and released in 2025. Like the TV anime, it will be produced by Kyoto Animation, and will be directed by Ishihara Tatsuya, who also directed the second season of the TV anime Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid S. This will be the first time that a movie version of the work will be produced.

Tamura Mutsumi will be playing Kobayashi, a single office worker who is full of love for maids; Kuwahara Yuki will be playing Tohru, who is saved by Kobayashi and decides to live with her as a maid; and Naganawa Maria will be playing the dragon girl Kanna. A teaser visual has been released, depicting Kanna holding hands with someone and about to leave, with the catchphrase "Bye-bye, Kobayashi."

On September 21st, the announcement was made at the "Kyoto Animation 2025 New Works Presentation" broadcast on Kyoto Animation's official YouTube channel, "Kyoto Animation Channel." Director Ishihara commented, "I'm Tatsuya Ishihara from Kyoto Animation! I was the director of the TV anime Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid S. Now Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid is going to be made into a feature film! Some of you may have guessed it, but this time it's the "Story of Kanna" that you've always wanted to see on the big screen! It's going to be a feature-length Maid Dragon with action and emotion. Kanna, Kobayashi, Thor and friends will jump the TV screen and run wild all over the screen! We're working hard to deliver something interesting. Please look forward to it!" Tamura, who plays Kobayashi, said, "Making an anime is hard, so I wonder if a third season will be that difficult...? I thought the audience would wait forever! But then I was surprised to find out that there's a Maid Dragon movie! It was so unexpected that I was shocked (laughs). When I saw the teaser visual, it had a very serious atmosphere...! Does that mean it's not the usual warm, everyday kind of thing? They're saying goodbye to Kobayashi!? What does that mean!? I was in a state of panic. But if the audience has a good sense... see, you'll get it, right? That's what it seems to be! I'm really looking forward to reading the script! I hope everyone is looking forward to it being released too!" Kuwabara, who plays Thor, said, "Hey humans! I've come to see you again!! I could picture Thor's face like that. The powerful battle scenes, the delicate changes in the characters' expressions... No matter how many times I watch Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, I always find something new. It is so carefully and minutely made. I sometimes think, 'I'd like to see it on the big screen someday...!' I can see everyone again! I will turn this happiness into power and live my life to the fullest as Thor. Please continue to support me!"

Naganawa, who plays Kanna, said, "I was so happy and excited to see the characters moving again, to meet the production staff, and to meet all the cast members...!! I was also happy to have the opportunity to think about and express the feelings I have for the work as Kanna, and I really wanted to work hard to deepen Kanna's charm even more!"

Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid began serialization in Monthly Action (Futabasha) in 2013, and is currently being serialized in Manga Action (same publisher). The series depicts the dragon girl Tohru, who lives with Kobayashi, a female office worker, as a maid, and causes all sorts of chaos while struggling for her sake. The first season of the TV anime aired from January to April 2017, and the second season from July to September 2021.

To commemorate the production of the movie version, a Blu-ray Disc box set of the second season of the TV anime will be released on March 26, 2025. It will include all 12 episodes, the episode not aired on TV, "Japanese Hospitality (Attendant is a Dragon)," and "Mini Dora" as a video bonus.
