It has been revealed that "CITY", a manga by Arawi Keiichi, known for "Nichijou" and other works, will be adapted into an anime and broadcast in 2025. The anime will be titled "CITY THE ANIMATION", directed by Ishidate Taichi, known for "Beyond the Boundary" and "Violet Evergarden", and produced by Kyoto Animation, the company behind the "Nichijou" TV anime. This will be the first time in about six years that Kyoto Animation has produced a new anime, excluding sequels.

The announcement was made at the "Kyoto Animation 2025 New Works Presentation", which was streamed on Kyoto Animation's official YouTube channel "KyoAni Channel" on September 21st.

"CITY" is a manga that was serialized in "Morning" (Kodansha) from 2016 to 2021. It depicts the lives of some unusual people living in an ordinary "CITY", such as penniless college student Nagumo Mitori, Nikura, and Izumi Wako. The anime will feature Komatsu Mikako as the protagonist Nagumo Midori, Toyosaki Aki as the protagonist's friend Niikura, and Ishikawa Yui as Izumi Wako, the most mysterious character in the series. A teaser visual featuring Nagumo Midori and others, as well as a teaser PV in both live action and animation, have also been released.

To commemorate the anime adaptation, episodes 1 to 10 of the original will be available for free on Kodansha's manga app Comic DAYS until September 27th. The anime's official Twitter account is running a campaign where people can win a teaser poster by lottery.
