The TV anime "There Are Too Many Losing Heroines!" is based on the light novel from Shogakukan Gagaga Bunko (Shogakukan). It started airing on TOKYO MX, BS11 and other networks in July, and has been gaining popularity, with related keywords dominating social media trends every time the latest episode is aired. One of the topics of discussion is the ending theme. The "losing heroines" cover famous songs, with Hitomi's "LOVE 2000" in episodes 1-4, Kylee's "CRAZY FOR YOU" in episodes 5-7, and YUI's "feel my soul" from episode 8 onwards, and all of the videos are different. We asked Director Kitamura Shotaro, who is in charge of the anime, about the aim of the ending theme and the video.

◇A song that is nostalgic for people in their 20s and understandable for teenagers

The work is a light novel written by Amemori Takibi and illustrated by Imigimuru. It was also a hot topic when it was selected for the Gagaga Award at the 15th Shogakukan Light Novel Awards. The series depicts a slapstick coming-of-age story featuring loser heroines (McCains) such as the gluttonous childhood friend-type heroine Yanami Anna, the energetic sports-type heroine Yakishio Lemon, and the shy small animal-type heroine Komari Chika. The anime is produced by A-1 Pictures.

The ending themes are "LOVE 2000" sung by Yanami Anna, played by Tono Hikaru, "CRAZY FOR YOU" by Yakishio Lemon, played by Wakayama Shion, and "feel my soul" by Komari Chika, played by Terasawa Momoka. How did they choose the songs in the first place?

"We had a lot of twists and turns when we were thinking about what the ending theme should be, and we ended up choosing a different song for each heroine. We had meetings with the original author, the editorial staff, and the producers for months, and these three songs were chosen. We had the theme of songs that evoke nostalgia, but if the people in the meeting felt nostalgic about the songs, they would end up being songs from the 1980s and 1990s. We thought that wouldn't be good, so we surveyed the young people at A-1 Pictures and tried to choose songs that people in their 20s would feel nostalgic about, and that teenagers would understand. In the end, we settled on a song that everyone agreed was the one!" ◇A completely different visual from the main story "LOVE 2000" was created by Cruiser Bonta and Aio Otani, and "CRAZY FOR YOU" was storyboarded and directed by Hidehito Sudo. "Feel My Soul" was created by Kiiro Aose, who was in charge of many processes from storyboarding to watercolor coloring, and the tastes are all different. Director Kitamura said, "Once I decided to do it, I wanted to go all out, so I asked them to make the visuals completely different from the main story. I tried to do something that hadn't been done in other anime."

"Too Many Losing Heroines!" has been talked about for its beautiful visuals, but the ending video has a different appeal from the main story. Be sure to check out the ending as well.
