Saito Souma x Furukawa Shin:"Kenshin" and "Shishio" to appear together at "Rurouni Kenshin" event; new information on the second season of "Kyoto Disturbance" released all at once

An event for the second season of "Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story," a new TV anime based on the popular manga by Watsuki Nobuhiro, titled "Kyoto Uprising," was held on September 16th as part of the online event "Aniplex Online Fest 2024." The setting for the second season moves from Tokyo to Kyoto, and Himura Kenshin walks the difficult path of confronting Shishio Makoto. At the event, Saito Soma, who plays Himura Kenshin, and Furukawa Makoto, who plays Shishio Makoto, appeared on stage and talked.

New information about the second season was also announced on stage. The cast that will play Shishio's faction was announced, with Hatano Wataru playing Yukyuzan Anji, a member of the elite "Ten Swords," Okamoto Nobuhiko playing Sawashita Johari, also a member of the Ten Swords, and Tomatsu Haruka playing Komagata Yumi. Singer-songwriter Kitani Tatsuya and music creator Natori will be in charge of the second season's opening theme "Iranai Mono". The second key visual, featuring Kenshin holding a reverse-blade sword and Shishio's group, a visual of Hiko Seijuro, and the third PV featuring Kenshin, Shishio, and Hiko Seijuro have also been released.

"Rurouni Kenshin" is a popular manga that was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha) from 1994 to 1999. It depicts Himura Kenshin, who was feared as a Battousai assassin during the late Edo period, as a wanderer who has sworn not to kill after the Meiji Restoration, searching for a way to live in a new era. The new chapter, "Rurouni Kenshin - Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story Hokkaido Arc -", has been serialized in the monthly manga magazine "Jump SQ." (Shueisha) since 2017.

The new anime will be fully supervised by the original author Watsuki, from character design to the scenario, and will reconstruct the original work from the very first episode. The first season aired from July to December 2023. The second season will air on Fuji TV's late-night anime slot "Noitamina" and elsewhere from October 3rd. It will be broadcast over two consecutive seasons. A compilation of the first season, "Jomaku Tokyo," will air on Fuji TV. The first part will air at 1:25 a.m. on September 24th, and the second part at 2:05 a.m. on October 1st.
