It was revealed on the 8th that actor Kamiki Ryunosuke will play two roles in the October TBS Sunday Theatre drama "Diamond Sleeping in the Sea" (Sundays at 9pm), starring Kamiki. Kamiki will play the main character Teppei, who lives on Hashima Island (Gunkanjima) in Nagasaki Prefecture in the 1950s, and Reo, a host living in modern-day Tokyo. This is the first time Kamiki will play two roles in a drama.

The other main character played by Kamiki, host Reo, is a young man with no dreams, hopes or motivation, who is wearing himself down by the daily grind he cannot escape. He will play two polar opposite characters: the honest and straightforward Teppei who lives on Hashima Island in Nagasaki Prefecture during the high economic growth period as previously reported, and the listless and ephemeral Reo who lives in modern-day Tokyo.

It was also revealed that actor Miyamoto Nobuko will appear as Izumi, a mysterious woman who appears in modern-day Tokyo. Miyamoto plays Izumi, who stirs up the story with her mysterious actions, such as calling out to the host Reo (Kamiki, playing a dual role) and suddenly taking him to Nagasaki. This is Miyamoto's first appearance in Sunday Theatre in six years since "In This Corner of the World" in 2018. Miyamoto and Kamiki appeared in the NHK morning drama "Dondo Hare" in 2007, but this will be their first time acting together in a full-scale production.

"Diamonds Sleeping in the Sea" is a grand story of love, friendship, and family spanning 70 years, set in Hashima Island, Nagasaki Prefecture, which has flourished in the coal industry since 1955, and modern-day Tokyo. It is a timeless human love entertainment that depicts the "era of nothing but dreams and vitality" from the post-war reconstruction period to the high economic growth period, and the "era of today when everything seems to be there, but young people cannot have dreams."

The script was written by Akiko Nogi, the director was Ayuko Tsukahara, and the producer was Junko Arai, the "Unnatural" team. Also appearing in the film are Takumi Saito, Hana Sugisaki, Eliza Ikeda, Hiroya Shimizu, Tomoko Nakajima, Mirai Yamamoto, Masashi Sada, Jun Kunimura, Tao Tsuchiya, and Ikki Sawamura.
