NHK's popular nature program "Darwin's Coming!" (NHK General) will air "Survive in India! Asia's Last Lion" on June 14th at 7:30 p.m. The program will feature Indian lions living in the forests of India. It will reveal their lifestyle, which is very different from that of African lions, such as appearing in towns at night and females deceiving males during mating season.
India is the only place outside of Africa where wild lions still live. With only about 900 individuals remaining, the Indian lion is considered endangered. Long-term observation reveals a unique lifestyle distinct from that of African lions.
At night, they appear in groups in town, females engage in courtship rituals with multiple males, and we witness the dramatic moment when a young male matures and rises to become the king of the pride. We delve into the mysterious life of the rare Indian lion.
