A new promotional video for "Mononoke: The Movie - Chapter 3: Serpent Mononoke," the third and final chapter in the "Mononoke: The Movie" trilogy of completely new theatrical films based on the popular TV anime "Mononoke," has been released on YouTube. The video, titled "' Mononoke: The Movie - Chapter 3: Serpent God' Special Trailer - Flash Chapter -," depicts a fierce battle against the most terrifying Mononoke, the Serpent God, and features a shocking appearance of "a certain character" in the last 10 seconds that will surprise fans of the series.
The PV depicts a fierce battle against a snake god that shakes the Ooku (women's quarters of the Edo Castle) with fast-paced action. The snake god, with an overwhelming presence that threatens to swallow the Ooku whole, attacks the medicine sellers mercilessly. As the ominous line, "Such boundless passion... will it be enough!" rings out, the medicine sellers are driven into an unprecedented, life-or-death crisis.
In the last 10 seconds or so, the protagonist of the TV series, "The Medicine Seller of Li," appears with the line, "Come forth, Sword of Li!" The ending hints at a joint battle between the two medicine sellers, "The Medicine Seller of Kun" and "The Medicine Seller of Li," as depicted in the theatrical film.
"Mononoke: The Movie" is set in the Ooku (women's quarters of Edo Castle), a place swirling with the passions of women, and follows a medicine seller as he tries to uncover the true identity of the "Mononoke." The first chapter, "Karakasa," was released in July 2024, the second chapter, "Hinezumi," in March 2025, and the third chapter, "Hebigami," was released on May 29th.
"Mononoke" is an anime produced by the same staff who worked on the popular episode "Bakeneko" from "Ayakashi," which aired on Fuji TV's Noitamina anime block in 2006. It aired on Noitamina in 2007. The story depicts a supernatural tale in which the medicine seller who appeared in "Bakeneko" confronts a Mononoke.
