The latest film in the "Star Wars" series, "The Mandalorian and Glogu" (directed by Jon Favreau), the first theatrical release in seven years, will be released simultaneously in Japan and the US on May 22nd. A thrilling clip from the film, showing the Mandalorian and Glogu racing through snowy mountains, was released on May 20th.
The newly released footage shows an intense action scene in which the Mandalorian and Glogou confront the Imperial remnants' massive quadrupedal combat vehicle, the AT-AT.
The scene begins with the Mandalorian, mounted on his bipedal combat vehicle AT-RT atop a snow-covered mountain, calling out to Glogoo to get on quickly. Glogoo, with a leap that belies his small size, jumps onto the Mandalorian and then onto a cliff edge. The Mandalorian tells Glogoo to "hold on tight" and, using his masterful piloting skills, steers the AT-RT down the cliff in a flash.
The Mandalorian pilots the aircraft with ease, but what's striking is that Glogoo doesn't seem scared at all, but rather clings on with apparent enjoyment. At the bottom of the cliff, a gigantic AT-AT, a familiar weapon of the Imperial Army, appears and immediately begins firing at the Mandalorian.
In the cockpit, a remnant of the Imperial forces, seemingly in command, orders the troopers to take down the Mandalorian. However, the Mandalorian, piloting the AT-RT, effortlessly dodges the artillery fire and slips past the feet of three AT-ATs lined up in a row. Faced with a size difference, how will the Mandalorian and Groggoo fight the AT-ATs? This footage from the film raises expectations for the action scenes.
The AT-AT, a quadrupedal combat vehicle featured in the film, is a highly popular combat vehicle among Star Wars fans. It first appeared in "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (Episode V)" (1980). On the snow- and ice-covered planet Hoth, the Imperial forces deployed multiple AT-ATs into battle, and Luke Skywalker and the Rebel Alliance met them head-on. However, the Rebel Alliance struggled against the AT-ATs, which stood over 20 meters tall and had thick armor. In the latest film, the AT-ATs also appear in a snowy mountainous region, creating an exciting and memorable scene for fans, reminiscent of "The Empire Strikes Back (Episode V)."
The film "Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Glogo" is set after the death of Darth Vader and the collapse of the Empire. In a lawless galaxy, the Mandalorian, a solitary bounty hunter who perfectly completes any job while adhering to strict rules under the motto "Our Way," gradually develops a father-son-like bond with Glogo, the mischievous and gluttonous "The Child," who possesses immense Force powers, during their journey together. "He'll outlive me. I can't protect him forever..." The story follows these two bound by an unbreakable bond as they confront destiny to prevent a new war aimed at the resurgence of the Empire.
Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the US theatrical release of the first film in the series, "Star Wars: A New Hope (Episode IV)." It has also been announced that "Star Wars: Starfighter," starring Ryan Gosling, will be released in the US in May 2027. "Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Glogo" will be released simultaneously in the US and Japan on May 22nd.
