57-year-old actor Jiro Sato will appear on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi), which airs at 1 PM on May 20th.
Four years ago, when he made his debut, he said that "the only award I received was the blooper award," but last year, with the film "Bakudan" (Bomb), he swept up major film awards, including the Japan Academy Prize for Best Supporting Actor. He says he decided to become an actor when he was in the fourth grade of elementary school. However, he didn't have the courage to pursue acting, so after graduating from university, he got a job at Recruit, but quit after just one day. He says his twenties were a rough and tumble mess.
It was his wife who supported him through those days. He grumbled, "I love my wife so much, but I'm forbidden from bragging about her," while excitedly sharing stories about her. His father, who watched over him until he finally broke through as a late bloomer and rejoiced in his success, passed away last year. He spoke of unforgettable memories of his father.
