NHK's documentary program "Document 72 Hours" (NHK General) will air "Continuing to Ride the Small Airplane 'Mizoka'" on May 15th at 10 PM. The setting for this episode is "in the sky." The program follows a passenger who stays on a single airplane and listens to the travel stories of the people sitting next to him.
An airplane soars high into the sky. What kind of drama would unfold if you were to stay on that one plane and strike up a conversation with the person sitting next to you?
The setting is the "Mizoka," a small 48-seat propeller plane that connects Amakusa in Kyushu with various locations in western Japan. It's the only plane, flying 10 times a day. Onboard, a variety of encounters unfold. The program's cameras capture young people leaving Amakusa in the spring to attend university, families flying for hospital visits, interactions between travelers and locals, and exciting unexpected events. The program is narrated by Marie Iitoyo.
The program is a documentary that places a camera in one location each time and observes the various human dramas that unfold there for 72 hours. It listens to the stories of people who meet by chance and captures a glimpse of "the present."
