According to the box office rankings for May 8-10 (compiled by Kogyo Tsushinsha) released on May 11, "The Devil Wears Prada 2" (directed by David Frankel), the sequel to the hit film starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, released approximately 20 years after the first, took the top spot. It debuted at number 2 the previous week and rose to the top spot in its second week of release. Over the three-day weekend, it recorded approximately 345,000 viewers and box office revenue of approximately 550 million yen. Cumulatively, it has surpassed 1.73 million viewers and 2.6 billion yen in box office revenue.
New releases occupied positions 5 through 9, with "The Irregular at Magic High School: Yotsuba Succession Arc" (directed by Jimmy Stone), the theatrical anime adaptation of the popular light novel series "The Irregular at Magic High School " from Dengeki Bunko (KADOKAWA), coming in at 5th place. "Sheep Detective Agency" (directed by Kyle Balda), a mystery in which sheep who love detective novels tackle the mystery of a "master's murder case," came in at 6th place. "Now You See Me 2" (directed by Ruben Fleischer), the third installment in the crime entertainment series starring Jesse Eisenberg, ranked at 7th place.
In eighth place was the animated film "Love Live! Bloom Garden Party" (directed by Go Kurosaki), featuring the school idol group "Hasunosora Girls' Academy School Idol Club" from the popular "Love Live! Love Live!!", and in ninth place was "Mirai," a film adaptation of Kanae Minato's mystery novel, published to commemorate her 10th anniversary, directed by Takahisa Zeze.
The animated film "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie" (directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic), which had been number one for the past two weeks, fell to second place, recording approximately 341,000 viewers and approximately 490 million yen in box office revenue over the three-day weekend. Cumulatively, it has attracted 4.31 million viewers and grossed over 5.9 billion yen.
In third place, as in the previous week, was the animated film "Detective Conan: Fallen Angel on the Highway" (directed by Takahiro Hasui), which recorded approximately 288,000 viewers and approximately 448 million yen in box office revenue over the three-day weekend. Cumulatively, it has recorded approximately 7.74 million viewers and approximately 11.4 billion yen in box office revenue.
"SAKAMOTO DAYS" (directed by Yuichi Fukuda) maintained its 4th place ranking from the previous week, recording approximately 172,000 viewers and approximately 256 million yen in box office revenue over the three-day weekend. Cumulatively, it has surpassed 1.34 million viewers and 1.8 billion yen in box office revenue.
