The orchestra will perform music from "Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam'" composed by Shigeaki Saegusa.
◇Comment by Shigeaki Saegusa
In 1985, I was approached by Yoshiyuki Tomino, one of the leading directors in the Japanese animation industry, to compose the music for "Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam." I continued to work with the director on "Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ" and the theatrical film "Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack."
I was initially confused by the differences in how TV dramas and anime are made. There was no pre-recorded footage; only scripts and storyboards. After much trial and error, I completed a full-fledged musical score, which is quite unusual for anime. This CD contains an orchestral arrangement of that score.
At the heart of the "Gundam" story lies the conflict between victorious and defeated nations, and the universal theme that "what is justice to one person may be evil to another, and what we consider evil may be justice to someone else." It is this complex and realistic worldview, which cannot be simply resolved with good versus evil, that has garnered support from so many people and is likely the reason why the series continues to this day. It is truly gratifying that it is still enjoyed and listened to 40 years after its initial broadcast. We express our heartfelt gratitude.
