The third episode of the TV Asahi drama "Borderless: Wide-Area Mobile Investigation Unit" (Wednesdays at 9 PM) will air on April 22nd. The episode will feature guest appearances by Yoko Minamino and Katsuhide Uekusa, both of whom were top idols in the 1980s and continue to be active in a wide range of fields today. This will be the first time the two have co-starred in a drama. Minamino will play Yurie Sasano, the first person to discover a robbery and murder case, while Uekusa will play Tomomichi Fukazawa, a suspicious person captured on security cameras near the scene.
This series is a police drama starring Tao Tsuchiya and Shori Sato of "timelesz" in dual leading roles. Written by Ryoichi Kimizuka, who also wrote the "Odoru Daisōsasen" and "Kyōjō" series (both on Fuji TV), it is a completely original work depicting the exploits of seven detectives with troubled pasts in a mobile investigation unit, a "speeding investigation headquarters in a truck" that the National Police Agency has decided to operate on a trial basis.
In episode 3, a robbery and murder occurs at a house in Yamanashi Prefecture. The first person to discover the body is the victim's mother, Yurie. As the Yamanashi Prefectural Police investigate, security camera footage near the scene shows a suspicious person loitering around the area, and it is revealed that the person is Fukasawa, who lives in Hachioji City, Tokyo. With the Metropolitan Police Department joining the investigation, the case becomes a "wide-area crime," and Momoko (Tsuchiya), Tsubomi (Sato), and the mobile investigation unit race between Tokyo and Yamanashi in their truck, "Ichibanboshi."
When the preview for the next episode, which aired on the 15th of last week, revealed that Minamino and Uekusa would be appearing, the two became a hot topic on social media, with comments such as "Kacchan and Nanno!" and "This is irresistible for those of us who grew up with 80s idols!" The two, who were reuniting after a long time, had often seen each other on music programs in the past, and apparently reminisced about old times during breaks in filming.
For Sato, and for Yoshihiko Inohara, the head of the mobile investigation unit, Uekusa was a senior colleague at their talent agency. The collaboration of these three "new and old idols" will be one of the highlights of the show.
