It has been announced that a special program featuring Yumiko Udo and Yoshihiko Inohara, titled "Udo & Inocchi's Exploration! World Heritage Sites," will air on TV Asahi from 8:00 PM to 9:48 PM on April 24th. This will be the first new program in approximately eight years for the "golden duo" who co-starred on NHK's information program "Asaichi" for about eight years from 2010 to 2018. The two will bring the wonder and emotion of World Natural Heritage sites to viewers at home.
The two headed to the naturally rich island of Hawaii, formed by five volcanoes. As they boarded a helicopter and looked out over Hawaii Island from above, they were thrilled by the many spectacular sights, including lush green valleys. They also witnessed a "rainbow ring," and Udo exclaimed, "I'm so glad to be alive! This is the most wonderful present I've ever received!"
At Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, home to Kilauea Volcano, often called "the most active volcano on Earth," the two witnessed the Kilauea Caldera, stretching approximately 3 kilometers north-south and 4 kilometers east-west, up close. They also stepped into lava tunnels formed by an eruption about 600 years ago, and were left breathless by the Earth's overwhelming energy.
At Akaka Falls State Park, explore a rainforest where endemic and introduced species coexist. In Leilani Estates, a residential area where 700 to 800 homes were swallowed by lava flows during the 2018 Kilauea volcano eruption, get up close and personal with the people who have come to live with the threat of nature.
In Hilo, Hawaii's second-largest city, Udo impulsively buys a ukulele at a shop she happens to pass by. At the end of their trip, the two perform a song and guitar duet on the beach with the setting sun behind them.
There was a moment when they talked about their mutual trust, with Udo smiling and saying, "Inocchi is the first person other than my family I've spent every morning with for eight years!" She added about Inohara, "It's amazing how he hasn't changed at all!" On the other hand, Inohara praised Udo, saying, "She's like a young girl, she has an incredibly pure side to her."
