"Detective! Night Scoop" (ABC TV, Fridays at 11:17 PM) is a popular variety show where "detectives" tackle bizarre requests and worries submitted by viewers. On March 20th, Detective Daigo Nagami investigated the request, "I want to eat Zari-chan who went to heaven." Second-generation secretary Mari Okabe appeared as a special director.
The request came from a 9-year-old girl in the third grade of elementary school in Osaka Prefecture. Last June, she went to a barbecue with her friends. They caught crayfish and small fish, and when it was time to go home, everyone gave them all to her. When she put them all in a tank at home, she was shocked the next day! One crayfish with large claws had eaten all the small fish and small crayfish. She was a little annoyed at first because even the crayfish she had caught herself had been eaten.
However, the little fish are not coming back. So I decided to believe that "the little fish are still alive inside this crayfish" and try to let it live a long life. The crayfish grew healthily for six months, but died after its second molt. I feel like I have to tell my friend that it died. Then I had another thought. If I eat this crayfish with my friend, will the crayfish and the little fish that were eaten also live on inside me and my friend? My mom said it was "dirty!", but I put the crayfish in the freezer. I would like everyone to help me enjoy eating the crayfish.
The client, a young girl, had been told by her mother to "cherish life," which led her to this decision. According to an expert, there's a risk of food poisoning if the crayfish are frozen for a long time after death, but they're not spoiled if they don't smell like ammonia or natto after thawing. They immediately thaw and smell them, but the client, her mother, and Detective Nagami are at odds. So, they turn to the president of the well-known Yamamoto Perfumery company for his opinion... Will she be able to enjoy her crayfish dish with her friends?!
