The variety show "Kaiun! Nandemo Kanteidan" (TV Tokyo, Tuesdays at 8:54 PM), hosted by talent Koji Imada, freelance announcer Akira Fukuzawa, and former Sakurazaka46 member Yuka Sugai, featured an oil painting by Kazumasa Nakagawa, a representative Western-style painter of the Showa era, in its "On-Location! Nandemo Kanteidan" segment on March 17th.
He said he fell in love with the painting at first sight in a gallery 13 years ago, and when he revealed that the client had purchased it for "5 million yen," a murmur of "Wow!" rippled through the audience.
The artist's own estimated value was 5 million yen, the same as the purchase price, but the appraisal result was 6 million yen, which drew applause from the audience. Daisuke Nukaga, the representative director of Nukaga Fine Art, which conducted the appraisal, said, "This is undoubtedly a work by Kazumasa Nakagawa. It was created when he was 92 years old, but I think it can be said to be one of his representative works. Please cherish it."
